World Water Monitoring Day History:

Water has been always essential for human life and that's why human beings from a long time most likely since start only knew that water is very important and valuable for a human life.

But especially after the industrial revolution we have seen that the quality of water around the world has degraded so much at its lowest levels. For sure industrial revolution has caused a lot of revolution in the human society but because of it only most of the world is racing today water shortages and the situation is gonna get even worse in the future.

The World Water Monitoring Day was first brought into existence in 2003 by America’s Clean Water Foundation (ACWF). The organization aimed to raise awareness amongcthe public about the importance of regular need to monitor their water sources. Initially it was planned to be observed on October 18th as it would commemorate the passing of the US Clean Water Act of 1972. However to make it a worldwide initiative another date was chosen which is September 18th.

Over the years, the sponsors for World Water Monitoring Day have changed continuously. The current organizers belong to EarthEcho International. It is a nonprofit environmental organization, which was founded to honor Philippe Cousteau, a famous oceanographer.

World Water Monitoring Day Significance:

Water monitoring offers one way to ensure people have access to clean drinking water. Monitoring water involves knowing what chemicals are in drinking water. As many times we unknowingly consume contaminated water which can lead to various water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid and diarrhea.

According to recent WHO estimates about 1 in 3 people in the world that is about 2 billion people today don't have access to cleaning water and if we continue our reckless activities wasting water then this figure is gonna be much larger in the near future. Hence it is a kind of warning to us that how important water conservation and monitoring has become.

Water monitoring also involves protecting the world’s water resources. Doing so by ensuring that rivers, lakes, streams, and other water bodies are kept clean across the world. Polluted water bodies make it more difficult to obtain safe drinking water. As we know that water is cyclical and that's why me must save our water bodies so that water can be renewed so that world doesn't get scarcity of water.

Another thing that we must do in order to ensure conservation of water is by adopting various innovative processes for saving water the most famous one is being the rainwater harvesting. So yeah this day encourages people to be little more careful about their water resources and must try to save and conserve them.

World Water Monitoring Day Activities:

Do some research and find out where the water you use is coming from. It could be a river, stream, or well. Once you locate the source, get a water testing kit and start testing the water for all the important factors related to acidity, temperature, clarity, and oxygen. As it is very important to be aware about your water source and if it is of bad quality then do report about it to the local authorities or company to take action.

Also aware about this step to all of the people to do the same for testing their water quality. And also raise awareness regarding this day and tells them about the importance of water monitoring and conservation and convince them to adopt the lifestyle with proper monitoring of water.

There are many organisations today who works for cleaning of the water bodies like lakes, ponds, rivers or streams so if possible then try to volunteer for such organizations and play your part in saving the water as well. And if you can't volunteer then atleast try to donate some of the funds to such organizations so that they can continue their operations.
