World Gratitude Day History:

Expressing gratitude and appreciation has remained a widely popular practice throughout our history but today in modern world it is seen as a more positive step which in some cases are even mandatory to follow. Hence modern era tends to be more generous than ancient times because of better access to education and awareness to the people.

Regarding the origins of World Gratitude Day it goes all back to 1965. As this day was invented by Sri Chinmoy, a spiritual leader and meditation teacher and it was conceived at a Thanksgiving dinner in the United Nations’ meditation room. It happened at the dinner, when Chinmoy suggested the idea of a global holiday of gratitude. Each person at the dinner pledged to hold an event in their home country every year on that holiday, and they all spent the rest of the evening discussing how they might spread the word about this new holiday.

Chinmoy Kumar Ghose better known as Sri Chinmoy, was an Indian spiritual leader who taught meditation in the West after moving to New York City in 1964. The following year only in 1966, many countries observed the first annual World Gratitude Day on September 21st thus following the commitment made last year, and the day has been celebrated annually ever since.

In 1977, the Spiritual League, a group of Chinmoy’s followers who ran the meditation room at his New York headquarters, requested that a resolution should be passed for officially recognizing World Gratitude Day. Representatives from the Headquarters were present to honor Chinmoy during this special ceremony.

World Gratitude Day Significance:

It is a very special to be always grateful because this quality we never forgets about those people who have helped us in our times of need. So in that way we can use this to build a much better and close relationship with the right people who are always willing to help. So being grateful to anyone for his help is always a generous thing to do.

By making sure that we always express our gratitude towards those people who help and by appreciating the people on their achievements also makes them feel very good about their deeds and in this way they feels delighted and encouraged to do more such good things. So by doing these things we also sprewrs the message of positivity and which carries on forever once installed. So in this way also it is important.

It is also true that sometimes because of our success in life and hardwork that we have done we often becomes egoistic because of being extremely proud on our achievements. And when we are extremely proud of ourselves we don't get to appreciate others for their achievements. So it is a very negative emotion when our feelings deter ourselves from appreciating others. So thos must be changed for a good behaviour and to avoid ourself from becoming arrogant and selfish.

So whatever reason you see showing gratitude is always helpful for you and building your good character. And when we remain grateful it is highly likely that other will show gratitude to you as well. As when we feel grateful, we are less likely to feel envious of others, grateful people experience a wider variety of emotions, and they are more likely to bounce back from difficult experiences.
