Nicaragua Independence Day History:

Before the Spanish conquest of the Americas also Nicaragua had a large history and it was dominated by various native American empires and the last one were the Mayan civilization who had a very remarkable role in shaping the history and culture of all of Central America before the arrival of the Spanish.

Nicaragua was first discovered by Europeans when Christopher Columbus invaded from Honduras and explored the eastern coast on his fourth voyage in 1502. In 1522, the first Spaniards entered the region of what would become known as Nicaragua. Gil Gonzalez Davila with a small force reached its western portion after a trek through Costa Rica.

Later after struggles of fight with native kingdoms Nicaragua finally came under total Spanish control by the mid 1500s and remained under for over 250 years from then on. The breakthrough in the independence movement of Nicaragua came when France under Napoleon invaded Spain in 1810s which weakened the Spanish Empire.

During this time only Mexican Revolution also took place which inspired all of the Central American provinces to fight for their independence. And then after a brief meeting at Guatemala city on 15th September, 1821 the declaration of Independence of Central America from the Spanish rule was announced.

Then after gaining independence from the Spanish for a short time they became part of the Mexican Empire. Then in 1823 Nicaragua became part of the Federal Republic of Central America which included the countries of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Costa Rica.

However this country didn't last long as soon a brief three year civil war occurred. And then finally after years of revolution and rebellions the Federal Republic of Central America finally collapsed and Nicaragua became independent from it on 31st May, 1838.

But like other Central American countries Nicaragua also continues to celebrate its Independence Day on 15th September only from the Spanish Empire.
