National Wildlife Day History:

The world's first National Park was established in March 1st, 1872 and it was none other than our lovely Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. And it was not only the first American but also the world's first National Park which was established through signing of the law by President Ulysses S. Grant.

On September 27th, 1962 an American biologist and conservationist Rachel Carson published her book called "Silent Spring," documenting the adverse effects of pesticides on the environment. And this was one of first act done to aware the public about the issue of environmental conservation.

Howeber the most revolutionary step came on December 28th, 1973 when President Nixon signed a law protecting threatened species from extinction as a "consequence of economic growth and development untempered by adequate concern and conservation."

National Wildlife Day was founded in 2006 by environmentalist and activist Colleen Paige who also created many such events recognizing various issues. It was created in honor of late wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin who was popularly known as the "Crocodile Hunter."

National Wildlife Day Significance:

Conservation of wildlife is important for our survival as human species too. As a part of this planet's ecosystem every species is dependent on each other for their survival so without wildlife it would pose a threat of extinction for humans as well. As we would face many issues like disruption of food change which can lead to various famines, lower levels of oxygen, unavailability of various resources and many other things which will be devastating for humans without wildlife.

Hence it is an awareness day which urges us all of the humans to make contributions for the conservation of our wildlife. As without it we won't be able to survive as well so it is a necessity as well and not just suggestion. And it tries to convey the message that world doesn't belong to only human beings but to all the living creatures as well and hence as a moral obligation too they should be protected.

This is a day which also encourages the people to take a break from their busy work schedule and to spend some time in nature observing the wildlife. As wildlife in this nature is very beautiful and majestic and hence it shouldn't be ignored. It can even give you different meanings of your life which you have not might thought yet. And enjoying in nature always gives a pleasant experience.

Because of the human activities which are rapidly taking place in the modern times it is causing a great damage to our nature and wildlife. And thus the motive of this day is to inspire people to take action towards the conservation and preservation of our wildlife and it asks both the authorities and the common people to do that.
