National Video Games Day History:

The first ever video game of our world came in 1940 and it was called 'Nim' and it was introduced at the World's Fair by Edward Condon. Then the development of video games were carried by many research labs and institutions in the country.

As in the 1950s universities like the University of Cambridge and MIT started to work on video games. Some games that came out of these universities were virtual tic tac toe, and “Spacewar!”

Then the first gaming console was designed in 1967 by the Ralph Baer who is known as the "Father of Video Games", hit the market, it inspired the classic Atari game “Pong.” Though there was a copyright infringement lawsuit, Atari still took off with the public when they released the Attari 2600 which included games like "Frogger."

But everything wasn't going fine for the gaming industry and it witnessed a massive crash during the 1980s. At that time Japanese company called Nintendo came to the scene and rescued the gaming industry. As Nintendo introduced some of the most important franchises of games like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid which all became most popular in the world that time. Nintendo also found a challenger in Sega, driving the market into the 3D Gaming world.

However in the modern era of games Nintendo lost its dominance to Sony's Playstation and Microsoft's Xbox gaming consoles. And today Playstation dominates the world in gaming consoles with competition from Xbox, Nintendo also is not finished yet and it is still loved by many.
