National Sober Day History:

Alcohol is kind of thing which is not only difficult to quit because of its addictive nature but it is also one of the most widely abused substances in the world as many deaths are attributed to it every year. Alcohol has a long history in our society and has been a part of human culture for years. In the past, it was mainly made by fermenting grains, fruit juice, and honey.

But after because of advancement of technology in distillation of alcohol it became widely accessible and affordable to most of the people around the world and this it became a widely consumed drink especially among the western countries in the modern history.

And it is not the first time that we are seeing that alcohol is causing problems but we have seen that how addiction of intoxicated things can cause great damages like when the British tried to addict Chinese people with opium to make then weak and this worked also but later China made it illegal as they realized Britain's plan and this lead to opium wars.

In the United States too we have seen problem of alcoholic addiction in 1920s only which led to prohibition of alcohol in the country as that time alcohol consumption in the US was at an all time high. So the US government decided to prohibit alcohol to lower down the alcohol consumption and addiction in the country but we know that it didn't work that well and the US government later withdrew it.

This day was founded in 2019 by ‘Real Aligned Women’ who identify themselves as a ‘sisterhood for sobriety'. This initiative is also sponsored by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

National Sober Day Significance:

And today it is looking like that history is repeating itself as alcohol consumption in the US today is rising at a rapid rate which is causing more and more people getting alcoholic which is a worrying trend for the future of the country.

The worrying factor is that alcohol has little to no nutritional value and it is purely consumed on the basis of taste only. Medically alcohol is only used as a solvent for water-insoluble compounds. In most religious ceremonies alcohol is merely symbolic. But despite very little advantages alcohol is one of the most consumed product in the world.

More than 17 million American adults are suffering from alcohol use disorder. Alcohol causes approximately 88,000 deaths a year, and 40% of all car accident deaths in the U.S. involve alcohol. This all paints a clear picture that alcohol is causing great damage to overall society, obviously we can't tell to people to not drink alcohol only but its consumption should be limited and people should definitely avoid getting addicted to it.
