National Day of Vietnam History:

As a race of colonization accelerated between the Western powers such as France and Britain they were vying for getting more and more colonies under them. And so Fremch started sending missionaries to Vietnam in 1658.

And then they started using trade as a weapon to gain influence in the country and eventually started to conquer the Indo-China through force. And since Vietnam was the most prominent region of Indo-China it took the most hit. Then by 1887 the whole of Vietnam came under the French Indo-China.

And then we saw one of the most oppressive rule by the French over Vietnam. As during the French rule the Vietnamese was largely discriminated and segregated. And this attitude led to many revolts and protests by the Vietnamese leaders and people however most them were brutally suppressed by the French.

During the Second World War, Vietnam came under the control of Japan as they defeated French to capture them. After the Japanese surrender in the second world war Vietnam finally became free of any colonial power. Sensing the opportunity, Viet Minh launched the August Revolution across the country to take the power back from the colonizers. Emperor Bao Dai was abdicated on August 25, 1945, bringing an end to the Nguyen dynasty.

On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, leader of the Viet Minh, declared Vietnam an independent country. And decided the name of this new nation as  the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

However the French were reluctant to lose control over their colony after the war and thus began the first Indo-China war in 1946 and it lasted until 1954 when the French finally withdrawn after losing the war and Vietnam ensured its freedom and now France was forced to recognize their independence.

However the pain still was not over yet as Vietnam was divided into two parts as North and South as one was a communist regime and the other was a democratic regime. And this happened because of cold war and so long years of conflicts happened between both the parts of Vietnam but they were finally united in 1976 under the Communist regime as they defeated the democratic forces backed by American forces. And Vietnam name was officially changed to Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
