National Chocolate Milkshake Day History:

The history of milkshakes can be attributed to the development of two key things, the electric blender, and malted milk drinks. So to understand the origin of milkshakes, we need to look back in time when similar drinks like this first appeared.

Back then it was a hot, milky ale-like drink and milk and eggs were foods of the wealthy so it was often consumed during grand celebrations only. It wasn’t until 1885 that somebody had the idea of mixing whiskey, milk, and eggs as an “eggnog type” drink, thus the milkshakes appeared in history.

Then in 1910, Hamilton Beach introduced the Cyclone Drink Mixer, an electric blender that became a prevalent machine used at public businesses like restaurants and cafes. With the invention of the blender, milkshakes began to take their modern, whipped, aerated, and frothy form as we know today.

Soon finally at Chicago in 1922, Walgreens employee Ivar “Pop” Coulson made a milkshake by adding two scoops of vanilla ice cream to Walgreen's standard malted milk drink recipe. And named it as the “Horlick’s Malted Milk”, later this drink made it to the menu of Walgreens and became very popular.

National Chocolate Milkshake Day Significance:

Chocolate milk is made with milk and chocolate syrup (usually made with cocoa powder, sugar, and a bit of water) and a chocolate milkshake is made with milk, chocolate syrup, and ice cream, so it's much richer, thicker, and frostier.

Chocolate milkshakes or milkshakes in general has played a huge role in American society and still milkshakes are quite popular among the Americans especially during the hot weather or summer season. It was also once very popular to have fries and milkshakes during drive-in movies in the country.

There are also health benefits in consuming this drink as chocolate milkshakes provide you with choline, a nutrient important for healthy nerve function. You use it to produce acetylcholine, a chemical that aids in brain communication and plays a role in muscle control. Choline also supports your metabolism and contributes to healthy cell membranes.

So definitely having a chocolate milkshake doesn't cause you that much of health damage and infact it is good for health also as it contains nutrients like carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, and minerals.
