International Day to Protect Education from Attack History:

Attacks on schools, students, and teachers can have a serious and lasting impact on a child’s access to education and societal development. In recent years, these unfortunate incidents have increased across the world especially in the war-prone countries like Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Chad, Syria, Yemen, and many other countries.

And it is no longer just about conflict zones and war-torn places as an attack by terrorists on student but also in developed countries like USA because of the mass shootings that we have experienced in recent years in the country which have instilled fear among parents in sending their children for schools and colleges.

As we know that in our history education or sending your children especially girls to educational institutions was considered bad and evil obviously this was a major misconception but it took a long time for the human beings to get out but still many of the societies especially those regions which are affected with terrorism it is still considered a taboo to send children especially girls to schools and colleges.

To counter this and secure the future of children, the U.N. General Assembly created International Day to Protect Education From Attack. This day was established on 9th September, 2020 and was supported by UNESCO and UNICEF, and co-sponsored by 62 countries.

International Day to Protect Education from Attack Significance:

International Day to Protect Education from Attack aims to safeguard and shape the future of more than 75 million children in the age group of three to 18-year-olds living in those regions which are heavily affected by conflicts or terrorism and that's why faces a real threat to their future as they are not able to get education.

This day sends a clear message regarding the importance of safeguarding schools and the safety of students, as well as educators and giving the children constant access to education. So this day urges all of the governments and authorities of that particular region to ensure safety to all the students and educational institutions.

Attacks on education are not just violations of human rights internationally, but these are also potentially ruining the future of many children across the world. With attacks on education leading to long-term suspension of learning and teaching, this also increases the risk of school dropouts which in return increases the illiteracy in our world.
