International Cabernet Day History:

Cabernet Sauvignon was actually developed by accident in the 17th century when a red Cabernet Franc grape plant unknowingly bred with a white Sauvignon Blan grape plant in a French vineyard. And since then it became one of the most popular wine varieties in the world.

Cabernet has been around for hundreds of years but still it is considered a relatively new wine variety compared to the other wine varieties which are like centuries years old. Some people also speculate that Cabernet is a half-sibling of Merlot. And they are not too wrong I'm assuming that as Cabernet Sauvigmon and Merlot are closely related and tasting them doesn't give you that much of difference.

Cabernet Sauvignon has been there from a long time but it was only in 1996 when the discovery was made that this drink is actually the child of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc.

For the first time the idea of an International Cabernet Day came in 2010, when the NoCal and Twitter user, Rick Bakas, got a bunch of Napa Wineries together. Although it was initially started as a marketing tool, it quickly turned into a holiday.

International Cabernet Day Significance:

There are primarily two types of Cabernet. One is Cabernet Franc, a heritage grape which comes from Bordeaux that is grown throughout the world, and Cabernet Sauvignon, a hybrid of Cabernet Franc and the white Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

Our of these two Cabernet types the Cabernet Sauvignon is actually the most loved and used wine variety ove the world. And why it shouldn't be I mean it is a timeless drink and it tastes great with anything no matter what you pair with it on the occasion.

There are many research which have been carried out studying the effects of taste and food on the tongue found that the tannins in Cabernet act as ‘scrapers’ for fats and proteins that collect on the tongue from the food you eat. So, any fatty and protein-rich food that you consume with wine will be enhanced in taste with Cabernet. And that's its make such a good combination.
