American Chess Day History:

It is believed  that the game of chess got its start many centuries ago, as early as 600 AD, with a similar game from India known as chaturanga during the Gupta Empire, which was likely an ancestor of chess as it had the same elements like queen, king, bishops, knight, etc. but instead of two players playing at a time it had four that was the major difference.

This game was likely used as a way to promote strategic training for those in the military. And then by the 900s it became a very popular sport in the Arab world and it is believed that this game came there through the Arab traders.

However the modern game of chess that we knows today was probably developed around the late 1400s or early 1500s. And soon this game took whole world by storm and became one of the most popular games of all time and still remains today.
