Theme:
The theme for this year's 2022 'World Listening Day' on 18th July set up by the World Listening Project is "Listening Across Boundaries".
"Listening Across Boundaries" implies to make people around the listen more as in the era of social media we can see that people only want to talk their issues but are not willing to listen others and that's a problem which further deepens division and hatred across the world.
But if you listen to natural landscapes they do not recognize the boundaries created by men but they all sound the same everywhere. In a similar way if you listen to more music or other knowledgeable things around the world then you might notice the similarities that eventually all human are basically the same.
History:
The 'World Listening Day' falls on 18th July to honour the birthday of Raymond Murray Schafer, a Canadian composer and environmentalist who is known as the founder of acoustic ecology.
As he developed the Soundscape project which laid the fundamental ideas and practices of acoustic ecology in the 1970s.
However it was in 2010 when the 'World Listening Day' was officially established as an annual event by the World Listening Project.
And since it's inception thousands of people around the world including many musicians and artists have participated in it's celebrations through including many live concerts or events too.
Significance:
Now you might of got an idea that why this day is so important today with a message of bringing people together through listening.
So on this day we are suggested to talk less and be more towards listening either you can listen to the sounds of the nature alone and just can wander off to see the world around you. Otherwise you can also spend some time with your family and friends by listening and talking so that you might get an idea about their life as well as nowadays we don't often talk with the most closed ones only.
And it is also scientifically proven that the person with better listening ability will be more successful in handling tough situations and certain jobs which requires higher concentration. So yeah listening is too a skill, infact about 2% of people are officially trained to be a better listener in various jobs.
If you are really bad at listening then don't worry start it slowly and the best way to start is through music as it is believed that listening to music really helps in making you a better listener.
So yeah besides 'World Listening Day'there is also another day dedicated to listening called as the "Day of Listening" which falls on 27th November annually. And so do share about this day with your contacts so more and more people can be awared about this day.
