Adivasi Divas History:

The meaning of thos festival can be found in it's name only as 'Adi' means early or old and 'Vasi' means resident, they are derived from Sanskrit language. Similarly 'Divas' means a day or an event. So it means 'day of the ancient peoples'.

Although Adivasis are not considered as the original inhabitants of India by the Indian government. Bit several studies do suggest that after the collapse of the Indus Valley Civilization it was Adivasis who first appeared before the Indo-aryans or Dravidians. However it is very controversial topic and there is very little evidence to prove anything so we are not gonna go deep into it.

But the one thing is sure that adivasis had played a critical role in shaping Indian history although they were mostly oppressed and suppressed throughout their history either by the local or invading powers but still they were able to create some various tribal kingdom across India throughout centuries especially most in the Central, Southern and Eastern regions of India there are many accounts of kingdoms of gonds, means and other tribes.

However along with other Indians they were too highly oppressed during the Mugual Era and later by the British Empire. And they launched various rebellions against the British rule in India.

Adivasi Divas Significance:

Adivasi Divas is primarily celebrated to celebrate these peoples as often their contribution and importance is neglected by the general public although the things have changed in modern times but there is a large amount of ignorance about the adivasis among other people.

And it also brings awareness to the fact that even today in this modern times adivasis continues to be one of the least educated and poorest communities in India. The efforts made by the government although has been slightly successful over the years but largely had failed to deliver what was earlier promised.

Thus it also works as an awareness campaign that further help is needed to uplift the tribal community of the country and as India just recently got it's first Tribal President in the form of Draupadi Murmu there is large expectation by the tribal community for their hopeful future.

Along with all the development goals for the tribal community this day also celebrates their rich heritage and culture which they have been able to preserve through several centuries despite being oppressed many times in the past, this itself shows their will-power and determination.
