National Doctors' Day 2022: History, Significance, Theme and Celebrations

India celebrates it's Doctor's Day every year on July 1st in honour of the birth anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy

Well 'Doctors' Day' is celebrated all around the world but on different dates so it is a national level event as of India's case it is celebrated annually on July 1st. 

It is celebrated on 1st July because it is the day which commemorates the birth and death anniversary of "Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy" an physician and politician.

History:

As said earlier the 'National Doctor's Day' is celebrated on July 1st to honour the birth and death anniversary of "Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy" as he was born and died on same day of 1st July. 

Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was an physician, educationist, freedom fighter and politician who served as the 2nd Chief Minister of West Bengal under Indian National Congress party from 1948 till his death in 1962. He died aged 80 as he was born in 1882. 

So in order to honour his contributions to the society and as he was a physician himself who also had served Mahatma Gandhi as his personal physician, it was decided that the 'National Doctor's Day' of India would be celebrated at his birth and death anniversary in 1991. So in 1991 it was celebrated for the first time. 

Significance: 

Although the 'National Doctor's Day' is celebrated at anniversary of "Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy" it doesn't imply that this day all belongs to him but it belongs to all the doctors in the country. 

During the Covid-19 pandemic we have already seen that how important role doctors plays in our life that's why acknowledging the contribution of doctors in building the society better is the main motive behind this celebration. 

So this day marks the tribute to all the doctors around the country for their contributions in curing the patients and keeping the society healthy from diseases and also for how much they have worked in stressful situations during the peaks of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

And hence we must not forget about the contributions and sacrifices made by these peoples and to ensure that and to pay a tribute the 'National Doctor's Day' is observed every year. 

Celebrations:

Well there is no specific way to celebrate 'National Doctor's Day' and moreover it is a observance day so acknowledging the fact that it exists may seems enough for most peoples.
